What Is a Void Cheque?
A void cheque is intentionally invalidated — usually with “VOID” written across the face — so it cannot be paid. Employers often request a void cheque to read routing and account numbers without withdrawing money. Voiding is also the correct response to mistakes in the cheque amount in words or payee name instead of using correction fluid.
Banks treat properly voided cheques as non-negotiable.
